SIL according to EN 50657:2017, EN 50128:2011 and EN 50129:2019

Determining the Safety Integrity Level (SIL) of so-called electrical, electronic, and programmable railway components and subsystems is crucial for the railway supply chain. This requirement results from EN 50126-2:2017, EN 50657:2017, EN 50128:2011 and EN 50129:2019, which are the standards cited by the Interoperability Technical Specifications as well as the NB-Rail organization operating under the auspices of the European Railway Agency. The crucial point is that the relevant standards' requirements specify the structure of the design team as well as the procedures for recording and proving the functional safety of the components being evaluated. Similar to the RAM/LCC analysis, since 2006, SIL activities have been a crucial component of the IRIS criteria.
